Base Sand Fragrance Review

Base Sand* Probably eight years ago, I walked into the Base store on Lincoln Road (South Beach), took a deep breath, and fell in love with Sand.  I ran to the counter and the lady pointed to the bottle of Sand.

* The top notes of bergamot, orange, and light patchouli are fresh, yet invigorating and energizing.

* Warning – this projects like a monster- especially if worn undiluted.  Keep this in mind.

* The concentrated spray can also be diluted to make an amazing room spray.

* The top notes last a long time. After about an hour, they fade and a clean patchouli and slightly soapy musk come in.

* The base notes stay on your skin until you shower – whether it be 12 or 20 hours later.

Summary:  Sand is the first fragrance that I have rebought more than three times.  It was my signature scent for over a year and it always makes me think of the Winter Music Conference, which brings a smile to my face.  At $55, the 4 ounce bottle is a bargain.  I’ve given it as a gift to friends who’ve asked me about it.  This would probably be considered an oil, so dilution might be necessary for those with sensitive skin or those who want to wear it to the office.  Sand is also available as a body wash, candle, roll-on, and incense sticks.  Also from the Base line, the mandarin/green tea SEA and peppermind/floral HOPE are quite wonderful. Base is a well-curated store that is worth a visit the next time you are in Miami.  Otherwise, check out their website.

Base Sand is available from Base boutiques and from the BaseWorld website.

Ineke Field Notes From Paris Fragrance Review

Ineke Field Notes From Paris

* Field Notes starts with a juicy orange blossom and sweet patchouli.

* Although this is listed as a feminine, I definitely can see guys wearing it.  It reminds me of the better Chanel masculine fragrances – like a sweet cologne.

* The orange blossom stays present throughout the fragrance.  It starts to get a little soapy when the sweet patchouli is joined by tobacco and leather.

* Once it gets past this phase, Field Notes is different every time I wear it.  Sometimes I get wood and amber with orange blossom in the base.  Other times I get more tobacco with a touch of tonka.

Summary: Field Notes From Paris is an orange blossom fragrance that is full-bodied but not overpowering.  This would be a great office scent as it feels like a classic masculine with a modern twist.  It lasts through the work day and the base notes will go on into the evening.  This would make a great gift for college graduation (or even father’s day). It’s very wearable and a bit unique – just like the person you would probably be buying it for.

Montale Chocolate Greedy Fragrance Review

Montale Chocolate Greedy* Top notes are sawdust and lime.

* Just kidding, its called Chocolate Greedy for a reason.  Dark (but not bitter) chocolate and orange are the strong top notes.

* Imagine if someone took a fresh Godiva chocolate with an orange filling and bottled the flavor as a scent.

* The orange fades away and a soft vanilla comes in.   It kind of goes from a chocolate candy to a chocolate cake.

* It softly fades into a sweet (but not too sweet) chocolate skin scent that lasts more than eight hours.

Summary.  You can tell I am dieting because I’ve been wearing this and Gourmand Coquin for the past week.   Chocolate Greedy is less refined than the Guerlain but still really nice.  To do a car analogy, if Guerlain Coquin would be a high-end Mercedes Benz, then Chocolate Greedy would be a mid range Lexus.  That being said, if I didn’t already own the Guerlain, I would probably buy Chocolate Greedy because it is so decadent.  It is not as in your face as an Amen yet it feels like it could be a brother to Bond I Love NY for All.  Since it projects so much for the first hour or so, I wouldn’t wear it to an office unless there is some transit time before you get there. It would definitely be a great nighttime scent for guys or gals as you will attract people who wll just want to lick you all over.  And isn’t that the ultimate goal of wearing a scent when going out?

Montale Chocolate Greedy is available from Luckyscent and from the Montale boutique in Paris.

Guerlain Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin Fragrance Review

Guerlain Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin

* Imagine the most delicious and decadent milk chocolate in the world.  That’s what this smells like.

* There is some cherry and rum at the top to support the chocolate, but it really is all about the chocolate.

* Slight projection for the first thirty minutes or so, and then it becomes a skin scent.

* The cherry/rum melts away and a soft vanilla comes in to join the dominant, sweet chocolate.

* The scent slowly fades into a delicious soft chocolate which last for about eight hours.

Summary:  Gourmand Coquin is the first fragrance I bought from the Guerlain boutique in Las Vegas.   It is also my comparison that I use when I am considering purchasing an expensive fragrance.  I think to myself, do I love it as much as Gourmand Coquin?  Everytime I wear this, I sniff myself constantly.  It is delicious, edible, and amazing.  This is not the chocolate scent you would get from a celebrity fragrance or something cheap from the mall – this is high-end, ultra luxe and rich- if there was chocolate nicer than Godiva/Lindt/etc. – that would be the chocolate that you smell here.  Although you would probably wear this as an evening scent, it works as an office scent because it stays close to the skin.  It is marketed as feminine, but guys could easily wear it.  Only two drawbacks – as a Guerlain exclusive, it is insanely expensive at $260 per bottle.  Also, the word is that it will be discontinued.   Although it might anger me, I wish Guerlain would change this from an exclusive to a mainstream fragrance so more people could enjoy and experience it.  If Gourman Coquin was marketed in department stores like their other mainstream scents, it would be an international smash.

Though Voyou is available from Neiman Marcus, I would recommend that you contact Guerlain Boutique in Las Vegas as their customer service is beyond impeccable, and they carry a complete line of all Guerlain fragrances.
